Home Exercise & Lifestyle Program (HELP)

Upcoming dates

What is HELP?

  • A home-based exercise program for older adults in need of assistance and/or support to engage in exercise.HELP02
  • A program to empower the individual by challenging them to take control of their own physical and mental health.

Based on the successful HAMP research project demonstrating that small increases in physical activity by older people will improve their general health and wellbeing and help reduce the incidence of falls.
Uses facilitators (individuals who spend time with older adults on a regular basis) to become a source of motivation, education and support for the older adults they care for to enhance a positive ageing experience.

Who is it for?

HELP facilitator training is specifically targeted for people who have limited experience with exercise / physical activity including aged care providers, family members, volunteers, or carers (collectively termed facilitators) who are interested in promoting physical activity and improving the quality of life in older adults.
HELP® exercises are suitable for everyone - from independent living to high level care.

How do I become a HELP Facilitator or Trainer?

HELP Facilitator Workshop —Targeted directly for facilitators.
A half day training workshop conducted by an accredited exercise physiologist experienced in working with older adults.
Facilitators are trained to encourage participation in safe, effective exercises for older adults living in the community or aged care facilities. The facilitators will be trained to use the HAMP booklet of exercises which contains clear and easy to use diagrams and instructions covering flexibility, strength, balance and walking.

HELP Train the Trainer Workshop—Targeted for Health Professionals with experience in exercise delivery and Fitness Leaders, who will be trained as Master Trainers in HELP and provided with the skills and tools to then deliver the HELP training program to facilitators in their own organisation / community.
