Active Ageing Week Celebrations 27th Sep-3rd Oct

It doesn’t matter what you do to stay active or who you do it with, it all contributes to better health at every stage of life.

The International Day of the Older Persons on October 1st celebrates life and the contribution made by older adults to our communities. This year it coincides with Active Ageing Week – a week that celebrates vibrant and healthy ageing.

Executive Officer of Active Ageing Australia, Cathy Zesers, says both events provide a great opportunity to remember that although ageing is a part of life, its quality can be improved by what we do.

APRIL NO FALLS MONTH

It is estimated that falls costs exceed $1 billion per year in Australia.

Whilst statistics show that 1 in 3 South Australians over the age of 65 will experience a fall, it is important to note that people in their 40's and 50s are also at risk and recovery time following a fall will impact upon home life, work life and recreation.

The South Australian Living Arts Festival (SALA) runs from 1 - 24 August 2014 and features exhibitions from people of all ages. With the theme "Journeys: pride in how far you have come and faith in how far you can go", ACH Group's residents have been inspired to tell their life stories through art, and are exhibiting their works at 6 venues during the Festival.

Barbara Coleman, pictured right, has been putting her time to good use while rehabilitating at ViTA. She and ACH Group staff member Louise Healy, at left, have been working along with other staff, customers and volunteers of ACH Group in the production of poppies for installations that will feature at ACH Group's SALA exhibitions.
